What is a white screen test?

A white screen test turns every pixel on your display to full white (#FFFFFF). Because each red, green and blue subpixel is at full power, any pixel that does not light up shows as a black dot.

Use this test to find dead pixels, dust trapped under the panel, yellow or pink tints and darker patches. A full white screen also works as a simple light source, for example for video calls or to check a document against light.

How to run the test

1

Clean the screen

Wipe away dust and fingerprints first so you do not mistake them for faults.

2

Start the test

Click the Start button or press F to fill the screen with white.

3

Check every area

Look at the corners and edges as well as the centre. Press Esc or tap × to exit.

How to read your results

Black dot

A black dot on white is a dead pixel. It does not light at all.

Coloured dot

A red, green or blue dot is a stuck subpixel. Check it on the black screen too.

Gray or darker patches

Uneven brightness or a cloudy look is poor uniformity or dirty screen effect.

Yellow or pink areas

A tint in one area usually comes from the backlight or the panel coating.
